5 Reasons to Use Sunscreen this Summer!

Slip! Slop! Slap!

It is that time of the year again in Australia, as summer approaches we start to get shorter nights and longer, sunnier days! With temperatures soaring and the sun coming out to play it is really important to remember to put on sunscreen.
Here are 5 Reasons to Use Sunscreen!

1) Avoid Skin Cancer
That between 95 to 99% of skin cancers are caused by exposure to sun. And skin cancers account for 80% of all newly diagnosed cancers!
These are absolutely shocking numbers, if you life in Australia where the sunshine is harsh (or really any place for that matter) it is all the more reason to Slip! Slop! Slap! Even days where it looks cloudy, sunscreen should still be an important part of the routine, this is because skin cancer comes from skin cell damage - for example overexposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun.

2) Damage is Cumulative
Sun damage is hard to measure, and problems do not generally occur immediately. The areas of your body that is exposed to the sun on a regular basis, but not be the area that you find the damage is. Every instance of exposure to the sun can cause damage on a cellular level as well as genetic damage and immune system suppression.

3) Avoid Premature Skin Aging
When damages do occur on a cellular level, you will find that your skin will start having the tell-tale signs of overexposure. Including pigmentation, aged spots, wrinkles, fine lines and dryness. Not. A. Good. Look.
Love your skin and help it stay younger for longer by applying sunscreen!

4) Prevents Brown Spots and Skin Discolouration
Girls aim at having beautiful flowing skin, and use concealer and foundation to prevent spots and pigmentation. The easiest way to cover theses things up is to not to have them appear at all.
Prolonged exposure to the sun can create brown spots and skin discolourations on your face and body. If this occurs, you will need to keep a close eye on any darkening spots on your body as this could be the first signs of skin cancer!
Protect your skin from the sun, and hopefully it will also prevent a trip to the doctors for a skin check!

5) The Ozone is Depleting!
Our Ozone layer is depleting, its properties allow it to sustain life on earth by absorbing ultra-violet radiation from the sun. The ozone layer above Australia has been thinned, meaning that the exposure to UV radiation has increased due to a less effective first line of protection!
We cannot control the Ozone layer, however you can make a conscious choice to put on sunscreen to protect your skin.

My personal choice of sunscreen is SunPlay because it is was to use and non-sticky! What is your choice of sunscreen?
